Spreads alone do not describe a broker. They exclude commission, execution quality, slippage and swap — compare total cost per round turn before choosing.

Understanding Forex Spreads
The spread is what the market charges you for immediacy, and for most retail traders it is the largest recurring cost of trading. It is quoted in pips, it moves with available depth, and it is the one cost you pay on every single trade whether the trade wins or loses.
Read this table as one input, not a verdict. A spread comparison deliberately says nothing about execution quality, slippage, commission or swap. A raw-spread account quoting 0.0 can cost more per round turn than an all-in account quoting 1.2 once commission is converted into pips, and a broker with tight quotes but poor fills can quietly cost you more than either.
Pip
The standard increment for a currency pair — 0.0001 for most, 0.01 for yen crosses. On a standard lot a pip is roughly $10, which is what makes fractions of a pip worth comparing.
Bid / Ask
Bid is where the market will buy from you, ask is where it will sell to you. Charts are usually drawn from the bid, so your buy fills sit slightly above the candle.
Raw + Commission
Near-interbank spread with a separate per-lot fee. Convert the commission to pips before comparing it against an all-in account, or the comparison is meaningless.
Effective Cost
Spread plus commission plus realised slippage, per round turn. The only figure that actually determines what a trade costs you.
Frequently asked
The spread is the gap between the bid price you can sell at and the ask price you can buy at, quoted in pips. It is the cost you pay for immediacy: open a position and you start marginally down by the spread, because you bought at the ask and would have to sell at the bid. On the majors it is usually the single largest recurring cost a retail trader pays.
